Grand Théâtre de Québec

Overview

Carmen, the most popular French opera in the world, captivates audiences with its sparkling score and unforgettable melodies such as “L’amour est un oiseau rebelle,” “Près des remparts de Séville,” “La fleur que tu m’avais jetée,” “The Toreador Song,” and many others. A new and original Opéra de Québec production that you won’t want to miss. Hear performances by two winners of the Operalia/Plácido Domingo competition that took place in Québec City in 2008, mezzo Ketevan Kemoklidze and tenor Thiago Arancam.

Carmen, a gypsy who works in the tobacco plant in Seville, dreams of a life of freedom and independence. Don José, a young solider already engaged to someone from his native village, becomes completely obsessed with Carmen, which proves to be the downfall of them both.
